May Park Primary School is located on Coombe Road, Eastville, Bristol. The 4 classroom expansion of May Park Primary School is a fundamental part of Bristol City Council’s draft School Organisation Strategy. The ModCell® panels rapid installation times and environmental advantages were key element of the project
The site area at May Park Primary provides a significant opportunity to increase the pupil places. The site has a large area of under used, poorly draining open grass pitch to the north east of the site and to the south the school boundary was recently improved to incorporate the use of the May Park Woods.
The 4 classroom block to increase in the size of the school demands new, good quality teaching space which will be adjoining the existing building on it’s north elevation.
The building will have a rendered facade with colour details to the window and doors. Windows will be thermally broken aluminum frames. The colours on the elevations have been developed in consultation with the school.
The method of construction is sustainable, modern timber frame method of prefabricated construction. This includes ModCell® straw bale wall panels, as well as a ModCell® straw bale roof cassette system.
The elevational treatments of the new buildings have glazing that allows a consistent daylight level to the classroom allowing the Key Stage one students to see out with low cills.
